Bunker Hill Elementary:

Bunker Hill Elementary includes approximately 600 students in grades 1 - 5. Bunker Hill is the newest elementary school in the Appoquinimink School District, just recently opening in August, 2009.

Problem:

Teachers are underutilizing the SMART Boards that exist in each classroom. The needs assessment will provide data regarding how the SMART Boards are being used by teachers and in what areas they would like additional training.

Needs Assessment Survey:

Description of the Needs Assessment Survey:

A survey was created using "surveymonkey.com". The survey contains 8 questions. Five questions ask how often/in what ways the SMART Board is being used in the classroom. The choices range from, "not at all" to "daily". The survey contains one question about previous training using the SMART Board. One question asks to prioritize areas of professional development needs and one question asks to prioritize interests for developing SMART Board activities.

Population Taking the Needs Assessment Survey:

Teachers at Bunker Hill Elementary are being asked to take the survey. Classroom teachers from grades 1 to 5 will be included as well as related arts teachers (physical education, music, art, technology, library).

Administration:

An e-mail will be sent to the teachers being asked to take the survey. A link to the survey will be provided in the e-mail message. Included in the e-mail will be a short explanation for taking the survey.
*Note: In anticipation of a low number of survey responses (teachers are receiving a high number of e-mails at this busy time of the year) I attended level meetings and spoke to teachers individually. Without taking too much time, I explained to teachers my need, the ease of taking the survey and my appreciation for participating in the survey to help me obtain my goals.

Results:

The data will be analyzed by the Technology Initiative Committee. The information will be collected through surveymonkey.com and graphed in Excel spreadsheets.
See "Findings and Results" for graphs of the data results.
